Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo
We met Aunt Mimi at the Rodeo yesterday. Erin had a blast. It was our first "carnival" experience. She was barely tall enough to ride one of the roller coasters and William was only tall enough to ride the tractor ride. But, fun was had by all.
Here are a couple of videos from the day.
Oh, and Erin rode the ponies twice. Gram said "Erin, did you have fun on the horsey ride?". Erin said, "Not horses Gram, ponies!" I can't believe she knew the difference. That's my smart girl. Needless to say, we had fun riding Twinkie and Comanache.
Oh, and Erin was fearless in the petting zoo. She ran to each animal and touched it. Never staying long enough to pet them, just ran up and touched them and ran to the next animal. It was hilarious. She showed no fear at all! I was very proud of her. It was super crowded in there and she just ran around fearless.

Toys...I Love Toys...
Mae found the toy basket this morning and climbed in.
I was sitting there on the computer and didn't notice what she had done. Tommy walked out and asked if I put her in the basket or if she had climbed in herself. I looked over and started laughing. She had climbed in and stretched out so she could relax and play at the same time.
The Vet called yesterday. Mae has hook worms. Apparently puppies get it from their mom and it's very common. An internet search said it's the most common kind of worm that puppies get. So, I've gotten a wormer I'm supposed to give her. Easier said then done. It's a pill and she keeps spitting it out. I've tried all my old tricks but she keeps getting it up. Not sure how I can wrestle this dog to the ground to get it in, but we will. Wish me luck.
Other then that, she got a clean bill of health.

First Vet Visit...
Mae had her first vet visit today. We took her to Dr. Carder. She treated Roxie and we just fell in love with her. So, we decided to take Mae there too.
She weighed in at 7.0 lbs and is 8 weeks old. She got two shots and we found out she has a double ear infection. So, we now have to clean her ears and treat them for 2 weeks until we go back for her next round of shots.
All in all they said she's a healthy little girl and could tell that we were already attached.
Now if potty training would just go so well...

Introducing Mae Lynn Mize...
We bought a puppy yesterday. Mae Lynn Mize was born January 11, 2013. She's 7 weeks old and now lives in Spring.
I was hesitant to get another dog, but the house was just too quiet. We talked about it and Tommy told me to do it if it would make me happy. I found some dogs in Willis and loved the pictures on the website. It's a small breeder, not a puppy mill, and she doesn't just breed them for show but for pets.
I knew I wanted another schnauzer. That was a given. So, I drove over there knowing that I needed to go to the ATM first. I withdrew the money just in case.
Good thing I did.
The lady had 2 litters for sale. One Miniature Schnauzer litter and one Toy Schnauzer litter. There were puppies everywhere in that house. It was fun. I knelt down and they came running. Mae jumped in my lap and started licking me immediately. Her sister came over and was sniffing me. The owner said, that's the one you wanted to look at. (I didn't want another solid black one. Mae has white on her lips, chest and both back feet.) It was love at first sight.
The Breeder told me that Mae was very outgoing and followed her everywhere. She said she was the nosiest of the puppies and fearless. From what I saw, she was right. So, Mae came home with me without a name.
I narrowed the names down to 2. Piper and May. (May was one of my grandmother's names.) I just liked it because it sounded nothing like Roxie. I told Tommy and he said we had to spell it Mae since that was more girly. We waited for Erin to get home and gave her the choice of names. She immediately picked Mae and kept calling the puppy Mae. So, Mae Mize was christened. I added Lynn because she needed a middle name and named her after Amy Lynn.
The puppy did prompt some questions from Erin about Roxie (Dee). We told her she was gone and she's okay with that explanation. We're using some of the same dog gear with Mae, and Erin pointed at it and said it was Dee's. Tommy told her no, it was Mae's. She said okay.
I'll post more on our little zoo later. But so far, everyone seems to be adjusting to the major changes of the last week. I'm still sad at times, but this new adventure is lifting my spirits!
