We made our traditional trek to Minerva to stay with Aunt Lolo this weekend for Easter. The kids had a blast as usual. Pawpaw hauled Erin’s Gator up there and she and William rode their cars for hours. (I don’t remember having toys like this growing up!)
Saturday was the big egg hunt and dinner. Sunday was church and getting home. We had to hurry to catch that tiny window where Erin might nap but that it wouldn’t be too late! We made it. We got in a 30 minute nap on the way home.
Here are some pics from the weekend.
Oh, and we got in our Bluebonnet pictures. No, the kids are not dressed up, but they turned out great anyway. The little patch we found was perfect with the woods and the barbed wire fence in the background. Very rustic!
It’s Bluebonnet time again and I attempted to get pictures of Erin in a field. We loaded up the Tahoe with towels, my camera, and a change of clothes. Tommy promised her if she was good that we would take her to the playground at the park where we would go.
We pulled up to the park and the parking lot was full. I got out to take a look and the community they where the park is located was having their Easter celebration and egg hunt. I walked over to the hill where they grow the Bluebonnets and it was all roped off with signs saying to keep off!!! I was ticked. Apparently there were too many people using the spot to take pictures and they were trampling the Bluebonnets. (Breaking a Texas state law in the process! It’s illegal to trample, pick or disturb Bluebonnets!)
Well, we couldn’t go to the playground there because of the egg hunt and couldn’t take Bluebonnet pics so I thought it was a dry run. Erin was very disappointed but Tommy knew where to go. Daddy saves the day.
Our neighborhood egg hunt was happening at our playground so he took us to the subdivision where Aunt Lene lives. It’s about 5 miles from our house. Erin loved it. It’s a cute little playground but she liked it because there was only one other little girl there and it was new with plenty to be explored.
I have to brag on Erin’s skills. She is so unafraid to climb and jump and crawl around on the playground equipment. She looked like a little spider monkey running from thing to thing. Tommy pushed her on the swings for a while and she’s trying to learn how to swing by herself, but progress there is slow. (She said her legs get tired and it’s easier for Daddy to just push her! This learning to swing by herself could be a long process.)
All in all, my Bluebonnet day turned out to be a playground adventure. I didn’t get my Bluebonnet pics but I did get some good ones all the same. And, Erin had way more fun!
Erin Mize, hands down.
I love Erin with all my heart but she has become quite the little Diva. I thought after the Terrible Twos and Traumatic Threes we would be over “NO” as our favorite word. I was wrong. No is heard 1,000 times a day in our house.
In her defense, there was a little girl in her last class that pitched fits and yelled a lot. I personally saw it and I saw her bolt from the classroom one day and the teacher had to run after her. She was truly a bad kid. Erin picked up on a lot of that because of the attention Grace got.
They have moved Erin to another class with no real bad kids in it. The new teacher actually requested Erin, so I think we’re in a good place now.
She has been great this week for the most part. For some reason the mornings are out challenge. It’s a constant fight between the 2 of us. I had to put her in timeout today just as an example. She won’t like the shirt I picked out or she will want to wear other shoes. She refuses to let me put her hair in a ponytail and won’t tell me the simplest things like what she wants for breakfast. It’s crazy!
I tell people she got all of our good qualities and some of the bad. Erin is so funny with great timing and a sense of humor that is out of this world…but she has attitude to spare!
Her favorite thing now is to put her hand on her hip, cock her head and say “Really Daddy?” or “Really Momma?” It’s so funny you just have to laugh or walk away.
All in all she is a great kid, but I fear what is to come in those teenage years. She is so much like me and I know what I was like!!!
