Two Stooges

I had to laugh at us today. I got a coupon from Babies R Us to finish off the registery. I went to town and got a bunch of the things that I hadn't gotten as gifts. Most of it was small stuff, but it all came in one box today. We were unpacking it and looking at the stuff together and Tom was telling me how "hard to hold" some of the things were. He had me laughing already.

We were unwrapping some of the toys and such and it took T 10 minutes to get into this snail toy thing. In his defense, they package kids toys up tighter then Fort Knox. He got it and then it took us both a minute and the instruction book to figure out how the stupid thing worked! Baby Gear 1, Mizes 0.

From there we got the stroller out to attach the stroller organizer and this nifty hooks that I bought. The organizer fit like a charm and was easy to install, but the hook that "fit any stroller" didn't work. I have to take those back. But, before we could get it started we had to actually unlock and unfold the stroller. I was being a smart ass and making Tom do it himself. He couldn't get it and asked for help and sure enough, I had forgotten how too. So there we stood in the hall for 10 minutes struggling to get the stroller unlatched and pulled out.

From there we tackled the pack-n-play. I had ordered some sheets for it and I wanted to make sure they fit before I washed them. We have had it out in the other room but haven't put it together yet. We unlatched it and about 10,000 pieces came out. The look on Tom's face was priceless. It took me 10 minutes to find the English section in the directions and it went from there. It literally took both of us to get it up. All was well once it was together, but it really was funny. Taking it down and putting it back in the portable storage bag was comedy by itself. Tommy volunteered to leave the room at once point because he was calling it bad names and wanted to bend it when it wouldn't give. Together we triumphed, but I was laughing hysterically.

After that we needed to unfold the stroller and put it back up. That took another 10 minutes because I couldn't remember how to do that either. I couldn't stop laughing and almost wet my pants from laughing at us. Tommy was making comments about how we needed to practice this stuff because he can just see Erin screaming while we're trying to do these things. It just made me laugh harder.

We really do stink at this stuff right now. I know it will come with time, but it was very funny to me today. Two grown adults with college degrees and we're stumped by the baby gear! I can't help but laugh at us. I just wish someone had been here to tape us. It would have been great on Youtube.

Wanted: New Home With no Dogs and NO KIDS!

Roxie now hates me. She's making me post this looking for a new home. She's looking for some nice people, with no dogs and NO KIDS!

4 shots today and some very rude testing involving her hiney. I got the lecture about having her put under to have her teeth cleaned. I just can't do it. My grandparents had a dog that got put under and never woke up. So, I plead my case to the doctor and still got the lecture. Also, Rox has developed a heart murmur. So, we go back in 3 months to have it listened to again. He said schnauzers are very susceptible to heart problems. (We know from personal experience as Fritze had heart disease and was on medication for it for years.)

He also suggested these buffalo bone marrow bones to help clean her teeth. It was a pack of 3 and they were sold to me raw and frozen. They were in a sealed wrapper, but still stunk. I got them home, pulled one out and put the others in the freezer. They smelled so bad. Tommy was totally making fun of me for buying them. I thought she would really like them but the toot turned up her nose. It's still laying on the rug in the kitchen thawing out and stinking up the house. Hopefully, she'll eat it a little later. (It should be noted that the vet told me he'll refund my money and give them to his dog if Rox doesn't eat them. I'm not a total sucker!)

Dr. Cole did have some advice about bringing the baby home and making the Roxie Connection a little easier on her. I feel so bad thinking about how hard the transition will be on her. She is so spoiled rotten.

I tried to cheer up by telling her I have to go to the doctor on Friday. She said it wasn't the same!!

18 Days to Go...and I'm a Little Unfit

I say 18 days to go knowing full well that she might be later then the due date. I just can't bring myself to think those thoughts. For those of you who haven't seen me lately, I look like I'm getting ready to explode. I am actually guessing she'll be born on July 17 (one day late and will weigh 9.8) Her Daddy guesses July 23rd, 8.14 lbs. I certainly hope Erin and I prove Daddy wrong, but I appreciate that he is guessing her weight on the low side.

We had another relaxing weekend in Kemah. Tommy wanted to go back to the resort one last time. It was a much shorter trip. We left for the resort right after the Breastfeeding class on Saturday morning. (The class was great by the way. We learned quite a bit and think it was well worth the 2.5 hours! We could have gone without the video that showed an actual breastfed baby's diaper, but overall useful.) We checked in to South Shore and floated in the pool until dinner time. Woke up and were the first ones out at the pool on Sunday morning after breakfast. We had the pool to ourselves for about 30 minutes. Once people started getting there around 11:00 it filled up quickly. We got back home about 5:00 yesterday.

I am still working but now I pretty much do it from home on a full time basis. Today I was answering the phone, working and cooking like an Italian grandmother. My goal was to get some things in the freezer that we can take out once the baby is here. I know we'll have to cook some and we'll be getting some take out, but a good throw down homemade meal that takes no effort will be nice. We now have lasagna, Mexican cornbread, chicken spaghetti, and regular spaghetti stocked up. Hopefully I'll be inspired to do this again soon.

Roxie is still ticked at me. Tom let her out last night and I was suppose to let her back in. Of course, I forgot. She spent about 30 minutes with her nose to the backdoor wondering where we were. I'm seriously questioning my fitness as a mother!!

Friday Week 37 - 22 More Days

Good news, if the baby was born tomorrow, she would be considered "full term". I guess it has to do with the crazy way they calculate due dates and stuff. They count from your last period instead of from the date of conception. Who knows? The math is too complicated for this Poli-Sci major.

She might be considered full term, but Erin is still growing. She's still putting on the pounds. The fat continues to accumulate creating those cute folds and rolls (just like her Momma!). She's in there practicing her breathing, sucking on her thumbs, blinking and pivoting from side to side.

I can attest to the pivoting. I was soaking in the tub last night and just layed there watching my stomach move all around. You could see arms and feet moving under the skin like an alien. She got a little rowdy this morning and I layed down to let her daddy watch and of course, the little toot stopped really moving. She does that every time!! Tommy gets freaked out when I wiggle and poke her, so he wouldn't let me get her cranked up again. He started talking to my stomach and she did respond with some punches and kicks. Nothing like last night, but he did get to see it a little. I think it's great that she knows our voices.

I think Rox sees the handwriting on the wall. She was all over me last night and can't get enough attention from us. It's weird the way animals sense things. We're making time for her now, and have a plan to make special time for her once the baby is here too. Do you think a double stroller for walks with Roxie and Erin would be too much?? I think people would think I've gone round the bend with that one.

Busy, Busy, 23 Days To Go

What can I say? We rock at putting a carseat in. I took it to be inspected today, not bad for a couple of rookies. The only thing she changed was moving the carseat from the driver's side to the passenger's side. We had it in there right and done very snugly, but she said statistically, there are more driver's side impacts then passenger's so it's a little bit safe. (Tuck that useful gem of info away for a future game of Trivial Pursuit.)

The Mizes are vacation bound, again. We're heading back to South Shore Harbour this weekend. We'll be staying Saturday night and coming back Sunday. I think I can safely say that this is our official last hoorah. (Even though Tommy keeps reminding me we could still be waiting on Erin 6 weeks from now. If that's the case, I can totally see him trying to talk me into one more trip to SSH.) The weather is suppose to be beautiful. The pool is calling my name. My pain and swelling are so much better when I'm just floating my cares away.

Vacation 2011 is also planned. We booked our annual anniversary cruise today. We'll be heading to Jamaica, Cayman and Mexico in May 2011. We were going to go in June over our actual anniversary, but the same cruise was almost $1,000 more in June than May. Needless to say, we're going in May now instead. The prices drop again the last week in August, but we don't want to wait that long! We looked at cruises out of Florida, but decided to stick with the Galveston cruise. Since this will be the first time we'll be leaving the kid for an extended stay, we decided to make the transition as seamless as possible.

I think we both feel better knowing that we booked the vacation and are sticking to our promise to each other that we will still make Tommy and Angela time. We've had a great run at travelling over the last 7 years and we're just not ready to completely give that up. We'll slow down, but not quit!

The funny part is that I booked us in the exact same room, on the exact same ship that we were in for the October 2009 cruise. Yes, that is the fateful week of conception. Hopefully, the May 2011 will be much less eventful upon return. :) No souvenirs please!!
